2024 Honours Student

My name is Peri Bacher. I completed my Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at La Trobe University in 2024 within this research group. My study investigated the relationship between emotion socialisation, parenting style and children’s social behaviour, as perceived by parents. My hypothesis was not supported in this study, wherein I predicted that emotion socialisation would moderate the strength of the relationship between parenting style and children’s social behaviour. However, I found some gender differences between mothers and fathers in their treatment of their children which I found to be of some value.

I am very interested in the long term effects of the parental and familial relationship on children as they grow up. I believe that this relationship, as well as our genetics, are among the most important aspects of our development and has huge impacts on how we develop as people. I hope to look further into how this relationship relates to attachment, emotional development, social behaviour and peer relationships in childhood and adulthood.

I am currently working at Child Protection and hope to use my research knowledge and skills to further my practise. I hope to return to study in the next few years to complete a Master of Professional Psychology
